What's the difference between a CD and an IRA?
A CD is a fixed-term deposit account. An IRA is a retirement account that can hold a CD inside it — the IRA wrapper gives you tax advantages, the CD inside gives you a guaranteed return.
What happens at maturity?
Your CD rolls into a new term at the current rate unless you tell us otherwise. We’ll send you a maturity notice ahead of time so you can decide whether to renew, withdraw, or change terms.
Can I withdraw early?
You can, but standard early-withdrawal penalties apply. Talk to us first — sometimes a partial withdrawal or loan against the CD is a better option.
Which IRA term is right for me?
Depends on when you’ll need the money. Shorter terms (6 months, 1 year) keep options open. Longer terms (2, 3 years) typically lock in stronger rates. Talk to a Great Plains representative for personal guidance.
