Credit unions are not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperatives. The motto: Not for profit, not for charity, but for service. Every member is an equal owner with a voice in how the credit union is run.
That changes the maths. We don’t have outside shareholders to pay. When the credit union does well, the surplus goes back where it belongs — to the people who own it.
Member Payback.
Since 2005, Great Plains has returned several hundred thousand dollars to its membership in the form of bonus dividends on deposits and rebates of interest paid on loans. Some members have received several hundred dollars in a single year, depending on their level of savings and borrowing.
